Medieval villas
Real Medieval gems to enjoy the past
Besalú
63 km from the hotel
There are many ways of discovering the Middle Ages, and Besalú is one of them. One way of entering the town is over its famous 12th century bridge. Although it was not possible to preserve the original condition of this old fortress, it is possible to see how it would have looked in the Middle Ages thanks to important buildings such as the Jewish baths, the Monastery, the old pilgrims’ hospital or the Casa Cornellà house. Besalú has great historic value, was declared a cultural asset of national interest and is one of the most important examples of medieval towns in Catalonia.
Peratallada
37 km from the hotel
If you want to take a trip to the Middle Ages, don’t miss this small wonder. Its streets preserve the original layout of the time and you can follow and even walk over the same stones as our ancestors. Given that its state of preservation is so impressive, it was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1975. A town that has been able to truly preserve its essence and that will take you back to the past. Totally recommendable.
Pals
30 km from the hotel
Pals is a lovely, perfectly preserved medieval town with cobbled streets, arched alleyways and plant-covered buildings. A quiet town in which its military past goes unnoticed as you walk through, it was the victim of several peasants’ revolts that culminated with the war against John II. The old castle was damaged and its stones were used to build the wall and the church of San Pere.
From the vantage point, you are given a wonderful view with the Medes Islands in the background.
Romanyà de la Selva
6 km from the hotel
Less than 10 minutes from the hotel, you have the chance to visit three places of great natural and cultural value, all in this small village. One of them is the old site of megalithic constructions, the other, the 10th century pre-Romanesque church, and finally the cemetery where Mercè Rodoreda, one of the major names in Catalan literature, was buried. You will enjoy a bucolic setting, covered with a very well-kept, peaceful cork oak forest in which to stroll, disconnect and take some good photos.
